Rachel is a divorced woman whose whole live is consumed by her drinking habit and like various other people with the love of the bottle, one may even consider her a victim of circumstances. Rachel rides to London every day in a train which takes per past her old neighborhood. From the train window, she daily observes her old home and also the activities of another couple who resides down the street from her earlier home. She has given names to the couple in her imagination and even created a picture perfect love story for them. But on the contrary, in real life, the couple does not have the fairy tale love story which Rachel has imagined. Then suddenly a murder happens, and Rachel becomes tangled in the investigation. This story is told from the viewpoint of three different women, namely, Megan, Anne and Rachel. All the women are not reliable narrators and are hiding something.
